If this has just happened to you, don’t worry – there’s a solution nearby. Here’s what you need to know and do.
Addressing Hyperactivity of Botulinum Toxin
This concern often arises among patients who feel an excess effect of botulinum toxin products like Botox. Symptoms typically appear the day after injections or a bit later. Medically, this condition is referred to as local overdosing of botulinum toxin. It manifests as an unnaturally stiff face, limited mobility, or even drooping facial features.
Who’s Responsible?
Is it the practitioner’s error or a low-quality product? In the initial days, these questions are secondary. The priority is to immediately correct the overcorrection of facial muscles. Left untreated, this condition may lead to long-lasting wrinkles and social discomfort.
What Not to Do
Never agree to “add more Botox.” Some practitioners might mistakenly assume that drooping features stem from insufficient muscle blocking and suggest additional Botox injections. This could exacerbate the issue.
Common Treatments and Their Limitations
Physiotherapy (e.g., microcurrents, Darsonval currents), vitamin B, and other neurologist-prescribed remedies are often recommended. However, their effectiveness is typically low.
The Solution: Your Own Plasma
A remarkable antidote to botulinum toxin is your own PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma). PRP therapy almost always delivers excellent results.
By injecting PRP into facial muscles, nerve function and mimicry are restored within 2-3 days or even earlier. This approach is most often utilized during the busy Botox seasons – fall and spring – when patients frequently present with these concerns.
Unfortunately, many practitioners are unaware of plasma’s potential as an antidote to Botox and fail to incorporate it into their practice.
How Many PRP Injections Are Needed?
Typically, one procedure involves 4-5 PRP injections, and additional sessions are rarely required. However, some patients may wish to repeat the procedure to secure the results.
Important Notes
If Botox was recently administered, avoid PRP treatments for at least a month to ensure optimal outcomes without disrupting the cosmetologist’s work.
Requesting PRP Kits
For professionals: Ensure you’re using high-quality PRP tubes for your procedures. If you’re looking for reliable supplies, you can request PRP tubes (“PRP-Kits” in English, “PRP-Röhrchen” in German) from trusted manufacturers.
